Children's Liturgy of the Word (K-3rd Grade)

Children Liturgy of the Word (CLOW) – K to 3rd grades

Children Liturgy of the Word (CLOW) is for all kindergarten through third graders that are not in sacramental prep classes. They are invited to worship in our CLOW program each Sunday during the 9:00 am, 11:00 am and 1:00 pm (Spanish) Masses.  CLOW provides your child with a fun environment to worship through song/story, listen to the Gospel, and learn about God’s love through a child-friendly reading and meditation of scriptures.

Children are checked in to CLOW with a parent before Mass begins in the back of the church and then they are seated with their family.  Just before the Liturgy of the Word begins at Mass, the children are called forward and the priest welcomes them, prays over them and sends them out to their program in the Family Life Center (just across the courtyard from the church).  The children return to the Mass during the offertory and remain with their family for the duration of the Mass.

Be sure to ask your little ones about what they learned at the Children’s Liturgy of the Word!

Every child on the grades above that is not attending sacramental preparation sessions is welcome at Children Liturgy of the Word, but we do ask that every child be registered in the program, due to VIRTUS Requirements.

All children within the ages above are welcome to attend CLOW, and we will never turn away a family, but in order to support the work of our ministry we are asking families to make a suggested donation of $25.00.  This helps cover the cost of our materials and ensures we can provide the best program possible. For more information on donations, please contact Ms. Jo Lippman at jlippman@sbdiocese.org or by phone at 951-698-8180 x244.

For more information on this program please contact Ms. Graciela Padilla at gpadilla@sbdiocese.org or by phone at 951-698-8180.

Register by completing the form below.

Montessori Sunday School (3-6 years old)

Montessori Sunday School – 3 to 6 years old

Montessori Sunday School is catechesis for children ages 3 to 6 years old and occurs weekly during the 11:00 am and 5:00 pm Sunday Masses. Alongside a traditional Montessori curriculum, children will be learning the catholic faith in a natural way that is guided by each child’s own questions and insights. Along with teaching the stories of the Bible, children will be learning about the liturgical seasons, studying Catholic nomenclature, and practicing grace and courtesy for others and their environment.

Please note that this program is limited to 15 children only within the ages above.  Once this class is full, your child will be placed on a wait list.  Families are asked for a yearly tuition of $25.00. For more information on donations, please contact Ms. Jo Lippman at jlippman@sbdiocese.org or by phone at 951-698-8180 x244.

For more information on this program please contact Ms. Rachel Noel at rnoel@sbdiocese.org or by phone at 951-698-8180.

Registration is currently full. Please contact Angela at avalencia@sbdiocese.org to be put on our wait list.

Childcare (1 year old (walking) to 4 years old (Pre-K))

Childcare

The city of Murrieta is a growing community and your family is growing with it. We know that bringing little ones to Mass is a gift but also a challenge and sometimes, as parents, we can leave Mass feeling frustrated or overwhelmed. We want to walk with you through the wiggly years and help make Mass a wonderful experience for the whole family. That is why every Sunday at the 9 am, 11 am and 1 pm (Spanish) Masses, we offer childcare for your 1 to 4 years old children. Stop by the Childcare Room in the Family Life Center (just across the courtyard from the church) to talk to one of our trained baby sitters before mass to get more information.

There is no charge for Childcare.

For more information on this program please contact Ms. Graciela Padilla at gpadilla@sbdiocese.org or by phone at 951-698-8180.

First Reconciliation and First Communion Preparation (2nd - 12th Grade)

First Reconciliation and First Communion Preparation – 2nd to 12th Grade

Welcome to our Faith Formation/Sacramental Preparation program! Preparation to receive First Holy Communion lasts two years, the young disciples will receive their First Reconciliation after the first year of preparation and again at the end of the second year. They will receive their First Holy Communion at the end of the second year as well.

This program is designed as a faith journey for students and their parents to take together as they meet once a month at the parish and the rest of the month the faith is learned and passed on at home, the Domestic Church. Our program is a hybrid between parish formation and homeschooling.

Our First Year of Sacramental prep is called Reconciliation. Sessions are held as follows:

  • Children in 2nd grade have their session on the third Monday of the month (with a few exceptions due to holidays) from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm.
  • Children in 3rd grade have their session on the third Monday of the month (with a few exceptions due to holidays) from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm.
  • Children in 4th grade have their session on the third Monday of the month (with a few exceptions due to holidays) from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm.

  • Youth in 6th to 12th grades have their session on the third Tuesday of the month (with a few exceptions due to holidays) from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm.

Our Second Year of Sacramental prep is called Eucharist. Sessions are held as follows:

    • Children in 3rd grade have their session on the first Monday of the month (with a few exceptions due to holidays) from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm.
    • Children in 4th grade have their session on the first Monday of the month (with a few exceptions due to holidays) from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm.

    • Youth in 6th to 12th grades will have their session on the first Tuesday of the month (with a few exceptions due to holidays) from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm.

A yearly calendar will be provided at the beginning of classes so families can save the dates on their agendas and would be able to plan activities accordingly around these dates.

As always, siblings and other special circumstances would be considered on a one on one basis for the right placement of our young disciples.

In order to begin the preparation process for First Reconciliation (Confession) and First Holy Communion, a child must be:

  • At least 7 years old
  • In Second Grade
  • Baptized in the Roman Catholic Church.

Please note that if your child/youth was baptized here at St. Martha, there is no need to provide their Baptismal certificate. However, if your child/youth was baptized at any other parish, we will need either uploaded in the website or brought to the office both their baptismal certificate and their birth certificate.

All children/youth enrolled in the First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion Preparation program should:

  • Worship on a regular basis by attending Mass EVERY Sunday as a family
  • At least one parent needs to attend the Parents Orientation at the beginning of each catechetical year, usually in August
  • Attend a Virtus or Safe Environment training each year, usually in September
  • Attend at least eight out of the nine monthly sessions per year with parent or legal guardian on the dates/times assigned
  • Complete the required workbooks and activities at home with their family
  • Attend an annual retreat with their parents
  • Demonstrate readiness with a final oral interview each year by reciting their prayers and answering questions related to the sacrament they will receive

Notes:

It is recommended that children in Sacramental Prep stay for Mass with their families. Please do not enroll them in Children Liturgy of the Word (CLOW) so they can experience the whole Mass and start getting familiar with everything that happens in there.

Young disciples are automatically enrolled and are encouraged to participate in their grade level Ongoing Faith Formation including: The45, Edge, and Life Teen! No additional registration/fee is required. If your child/youth cannot attend these extra sessions and you would like to stop receiving emails related to these programs, please request for your family to be taken off these programs to Ms. Patti Armstrong at 951-698-8180 x231.

It is never too late for your child or youth to receive the Sacraments! We have sessions for 2nd to 12th graders to prepare children and youth that have not received their First Holy Communion.

For youth/adults in grades higher than 12th grade that have not received their First Holy Communion, please contact Ms. Angeles Lopez at angeleslopez@sbdiocese.org or by phone at 951-698-8180 x219.

The45 (4th-5th grade)

The45 – 4th to 5th grades

The45 is our Ongoing Faith Formation program for all 4th and 5th grade students. They meet on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month at 6:30 pm.

The45 provides a supportive environment where kids can have fun with their peers while they are learning about God, developing good habits for life, and growing in their relationship with Christ.  Our program includes a presentation of Bible stories, solid Catholic teaching, inspiring learning activities and conversations, music and a message that is designed to reinforce faith-based habits and lead students into deeper relationships with Christ.

All 4th and 5th graders are welcome to attend The45, and we will never turn away a family, but in order to support the work of our ministry we are asking families to make a suggested donation of $30.00. This helps cover the cost of our materials and ensures we can provide the best program possible. Children are led by a trained team of enthusiastic adults and teens.  If you feel called to serve and would like more information on how to become part of The45 core team or if you need more information about this program, please contact Mr. Vinny Kyamko-yap at vkyamko@sbdiocese.org or by phone at 951-698-8180 x248.

EDGE (Middle School Ministry)

EDGE is our formation ministry for 6th‐8th grade students and meets most Sundays from 6:30-8:30pm.  Each week, the middle school teens will hear a message specifically designed for them, they will worship, play games and take part in small groups.  We believe that students who grow in faith in relationship with other believers become healthy, faithful adults, so our small groups are led by loving adults who will challenge the teens to go deeper into the scripture and teachings of the Church.  For more information on volunteering and becoming part of the core team, please contact Vinny Kyamko-Yap at vkyamko@sbdiocese.org

All children in Jr. High are welcome to attend EDGE, and we will never turn away a family, but in order to support the work of our ministry we are asking families to make a suggested donation of $50.

Register by completing the form below.

Life Teen (High School Ministry)

Life Teen is our High School Ministry and there are a lot of ways your students can get involved.

Life Teen (Sundays 6:30-8:30 pm).  Each week at Life Teen students hear a dynamic message, have the opportunity to ask questions, participate in powerful times of worship, led by our student worship ministry, grow in community through games, small groups and a weekly meal.  Life Teen invites high school teens to move from being followers of the crowd to being leaders in faith.  All high school age teens are welcome.  Life Teen is led by a passionate group of adults called the CORE team.  For more information on volunteering to be a part of the CORE, contact Brandon Tait at btait@sbdiocese.org

The Journey (High School Confirmation)

Journey is a three-year program typically starting in the Freshman year of high school and ending with confirmation in the spring of the junior year. The Journey program consists of five elements. They are detailed below.

Parent/Sponsor Participation:  Attendance at 21 events plus some online Field Guide participation

Candidates will be required to attend all Journey events with a parent or sponsor.  Parents and sponsors will also be required to participate in some of the assignments from the online Field Guide.

Journey Events

The Journey events are offered 10 months a year.  Candidates are required to attend 21 events over the course of three years (21 out of 30).  A parent or the sponsor must attend each event with the candidate.  Journey events typically take place on the first Wednesday of each month from 6:30-8:30 pm.  These 21 events must be completed prior to Confirmation in the Junior or Senior year.  Our events consist of national and national quality speakers that share powerful messages.  Parent or sponsor participation and attendance are required at every Journey event.  In addition, students are invited to participate in our weekly Life Teen events on most Sunday evenings for small group interaction within the community.

Service Ministry

Service:  Each candidate must participate in one multi-day service project each year over the course of the formation process.  This means that each candidate must complete a total of three multi-day projects over the course of their three years within the Journey program.

Retreat

Retreat: We host one high school retreat each year at Forest Home Camp on the first weekend in December.  Candidates must participate in at least one weekend retreat prior to Confirmation.  We also attend a summer conference each year called Steubenville in the month of July.  Candidates may choose to attend the Steubenville Conference with Life Teen in July as their “retreat”.  They may also attend as a make up for missing two (2) Journey events before their Confirmation Ceremony.

Registration for the Journey program does not include a candidate’s retreat or conference fees.

Field Guides

All candidates are required to complete Field Guides “One and Two”.  Through these field guides, candidates will be required to work online and study the Bible and Catechism of the Catholic Church.  The field guides consist of four to seven chapters designed to broaden the experience and practice of our Catholic Faith.  Assignments will vary between individual assignments and parent/student/sponsor assignments.  Assignments are designed to expose candidates to different practices of prayer, the teachings of the Church, scripture, the lives of Saints, Sacraments, etc.

Journey is a three-year enrollment.  Payment options include a one time fee of $360 or 30 monthly payments of $12.

OCIA for Children (2nd-12th Grade)

Order of Christian Initiation for Adults (OCIA) adapted for Children – 2nd to 12th grades

What if my child has not been baptized and is 7 years old or older? What if they were baptized outside of the Roman Catholic Church? Good News!  It’s never too late to receive the sacraments and we are excited to help you! The OCIA process is designed as a faith journey for students and their parents to take together as a family.

OCIA for Children is the ordinary means by which an unbaptized 7 years old or older child/youth is baptized, receives First Holy Communion and Confirmation.  It is also the process by which previously baptized children/youth in another Christian denomination, who seek Full Communion with the Catholic Church, make a Profession of Faith and receives First Holy Communion and Confirmation.

OCIA for Children is for children/youth who are in the 2nd to 12th grades and have never been baptized or have been baptized outside of the Roman Catholic Church.  Children/youth who are requiring these Sacraments need to attend at least two years of formation preparing them to receive the Sacrament of Baptism/Profession of Faith, along with First Holy Communion, and Confirmation. They will also receive their sacrament of First Reconciliation (Confession) afterwards.

Sessions for all young disciples and their parents are held on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month. Sessions for families registered on their first year of OCIA are as follows:

  • Children in 2nd to 5th grades have their sessions on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month (with a few exceptions due to holidays) from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm.
  • Youth in 6th to 12th grades have their sessions on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month (with a few exceptions due to holidays) from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm.

Sessions for families registered on their second year of OCIA are as follows:

  • Children in 2nd to 5th grades have their sessions on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month (with a few exceptions due to holidays) from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm.
  • Youth in 6th to 12th grades have their sessions on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month (with a few exceptions due to holidays) from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm.

As always, siblings and other special circumstances would be considered on a one on one basis for the right placement of our young disciples.

In order to begin the preparation process for OCIA for Children, a child must be:

  • 7 years old or older
  • In Second Grade
  • Not baptized or baptized in another Christian denomination. We will need a copy of the birth certificate that could be uploaded in the online registration form below or by bringing the original to the Faith Formation office so we can make a copy for us.
