Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA)- 18 years old & older

One of the greatest joys of the Catholic Church is welcoming new believers into the family. The process to make that happen is called the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA). It is a casual and conversational environment where people who are exploring Catholic Christianity get to know more about the basic message of Christ and the mission of His Church. This is an accessible and welcoming way to take a look at the bigger picture about God, Jesus, the Bible, the Christian story and the Catholic Church.

RCIA begins with Inquiry Sessions on a year-round basis which continue until August every year when the catechetical period of RCIA begins for the people that decides they want to move forward on this process. Then, the night before Easter, at the Easter Vigil, those wanting to become Catholic and receive their sacraments are received into the Church. The journey in the RCIA process concludes around June with the Feast of Pentecost.

Inquiry sessions meet every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The RCIA catechetical sessions meet from August to June on Thursday’s evenings at 7:00 pm.

If you would like to become Catholic and have not been baptized or have been baptized in a different Christian faith tradition, the RCIA is for you.

Note: due to the pandemic, sessions at the beginning might be online this year.

The RCIA for adults is a process that lasts until the people say they are ready and decide they want to become Catholic. There is a yearly tuition of $35.00 once the catechetical period begins each August.

For more information on payments, please contact Ms. Jo Lippman at jlippman@sbdiocese.org or by phone at 951-698-8180 x244.
